Through the pages of its magazine and later website, CGE has reached every month a wide national audience of decision-makers and managers across federal, provincial and municipal jurisdictions. In this Dashboard, we would like to introduce to you the new Editorial Board members. Announcing Canadian Government Executive’s New Editorial Advisory Board As the Deputy Minister of the Public Service Com- mission for the Govern- ment of Alberta, Lana Lougheed is responsible for administering the Public Service Act. Her department oversees gov- ernment-wide leadership and talent development to ensure Alberta has a professional and engaged public service to deliver the programs and services Albertans require. Ms. Lougheed has been a member of the Alberta Public Service for more than 30 years and has held executive leadership positions with several ministries, including Ex- ecutive Council, Treasury Board and Finance and Human Services. Before joining the Public Service Commission in 2014, Ms. Lougheed served as the Deputy Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training, and Labour, where she was responsible for ensuring Alberta has a resilient labour force and safe, fair and healthy workplaces to support Alberta’s dynamic economy. Jim Connell has served in a number of leadership positions in government and the broader public sector over the past 25 years. He began his public service career with the Yu- kon Archives and held sev- eral senior management positions in the Executive Council Office and the Department of Renewable Resources before taking on senior leadership roles with Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario and the Ontario College system. Since returning to the Yukon, Jim has served in successively senior leader- ship roles in the Yukon government including Director of the Manage- ment Board Secretariat, Assistant Deputy Minister of Strategic Corporate Services for the Executive Council Office, Deputy Minister of Environment, Public Service Commis- sioner and now as Deputy Minister for the Executive Council Office and Cabinet Secretary. Denise Amyot is the Presi- dent and CEO of Colleges and Institutes Canada, an association that is the national and international voice of Canada’s publicly supported colleges, insti- tutes, and polytechnics. She was the President and CEO of the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, a federal crown corporation including three national science museums linked to Agri-food, Aviation and Space, and Science and Innovation. Denise was also the Senior Vice-President of the Leadership and Talent Management Sector at the Canada Public Service Agency (now Treasury Board). She has worked both in National Head- quarters and in regions in several federal depart- ments including Human Resources Development Canada, National Defence, Natural Resources Can- ada, Canadian Heritage, and the Public Service Commission. She also worked for a few years with the Department of Education in the Govern- ment of the Northwest Territories. Over the course of an extensive career in public service, Michael Fenn has been an Ontario Deputy Minister under three Pre- miers, the Municipal Chief Administrator in Hamilton and Burlington, and the founding CEO of both Toronto/Hamilton region transportation authority Metrolinx and regional health authority Missis- sauga Halton LHIN serving over a million residents. Michael is a management consultant specializing in the public sector and healthcare services delivery. He is President of Fenn Advisory Services Inc. and a Senior Advisor with the consulting firm StrategyCorp. He is also a Board Director with both the C$85 billion OMERS AC pension fund and the Toronto Board of Education’s realty arm, the Toronto Lands Corpora- tion. He is a certified board director, having attained the C.Dir. designation in 2014. He serves as Facilita- tor in ongoing discussions between the Mushkeg- owuk Cree Tribal Council and the Ontario Govern- ment on policing issues. Penny Ballantyne served as the Secretary to Cabinet during the period 2010 to 2016 and Deputy Minister for 15 years with the Gov- ernment of the Northwest Territories. Her Deputy Minister portfolios have included the NWT Housing Corporation, Municipal and Community Affairs, Educa- tion, Culture and Employ- ment, Health and Social Services and the Workers’ Compensation Board of the NWT and Nunavut. Penny also served as City Manager for the City of Victoria from 2006 to 2008. Her volunteer activities include NWT United Way and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada where she served as Presi- dent from 2015 to 2016. Her tenure at IPAC was focused on developing relationships with Indig- enous governments and supporting IPAC’s Year of Reconciliation. Now retired, Penny is enjoying her three grandchildren and traveling extensively. In 2017, she walked the 760 KM Camino de Santiago in Spain and spent several months in the Mexican interior. She occasionally consults with municipal and other governments.
