Ontarians will now have access to court information online, thanks to an initiative carried out by the Ministry of the Attorney General.

The initiative, led by Chief Justices Heather Smith and Annemarie E. Bonkalo, is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to strengthening the province’s justice system. It is intended to give the public fast, convenient access to court information.

Previously, the information could only be obtained by calling or visiting the courthouse in person.

Using the online court list, users will be able to search for information about next-day court appearances. Users can search by case number, name, or the time, location, and reason for the court appearance.

The court lists will be updated each day at 4:30 pm with fresh case information for the next 24 hours.

Cases involving adoption, child protection, and youth will be excepted from the list, as will all cases subject to statutory, common law, or court-ordered public access restrictions.

“Modernizing court processes is a priority for our government, and making daily court lists available online is truly a step in the right direction,” said Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur. “By working together with the courts and our justice sector participants, we can and will achieve our vision of a modern, responsive and sustainable justice system.”
