As the pace of technological change quickens and the demands on service delivery increase, the job of the public sector chief information officer will shift from one focused on technology to a leader of modernization.
Corinne Charette, the CIO for the government of Canada, told CGE’s Leadership Summit that CIOs will be “a key driver for innovation going forward,” forced to relinquish their hold on the technology domain of their departments and focus more on service delivery transformation.
CIOs, she suggested, are well positioned to work horizontally and therefore key to the development of a common service vision. CIO, she said, may one day stand for Chief Innovation Officer. “CIOs are aware of the art of the possible.”
The entire video of Mrs. Charette’s presentation will be available on the CGE website soon.
