CGE appoints a former deputy minister as new editor-in-chief

Canadian Government Executive Media (CGE) announced last Friday, that George Ross has been selected as editor-in-chief of Canadian Government Executive magazine. Ross, a former deputy minister brings with him a wealth of experience from his service as a deputy minister and senior public servant.

“We are elated to have George join our team. It’s a big win for us to have him onboard. He’s highly accomplished and very well regarded,” said J. Richard Jones, president and group publisher of Canadian Government Executive Media. “His deep understanding of government and the number of people who know him and respect his work will really help CGE to demonstrate an even higher quality of content leadership to its readers.”

George Ross held many different deputy minister portfolios both with the Government of Ontario and the Yukon Territorial Government during his public sector career. As a proven and decisive leader, Ross is known for his ability to connect government with business and has embodied public service leadership through a life-long commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards. He has led large and complex decentralized organizations and built high-performing engaged executive teams. He has also worked on several research and innovation programs and policy.

George Ross

“I’m looking forward to taking over the reigns as editor-in-chief for CGE and in working with the CGE team. I have been an avid reader and fan of the magazine for years and now I get to assist in supporting the mission that CGE has been committed to for over 20 years, which is to contribute to public sector excellence,” said Ross. “I will be reaching out to various departments both within the public sector and the private sector to help develop the ‘best of the best’ content as well as delivery streams via print, online, radio and conference.”

“George is a highly accomplished senior public servant with a vast array of skills and experience,” said Marcello Sukhdeo, editor of Canadian Government Executive. “We believe George will be most instrumental, in not only helping to steer the content of CGE, but also growing our annual CGE Leadership Summit and to further assist with the success of our new TechGov forum which was launched earlier this year.”

Ross has replaced outgoing editor of CGE Patrice Dutil effective June 30th.

“George is joining a long history of notable editors, guest editors and contributors who have graced CGE’s pages over the last two decades.” Jones said.

Ross has over 33 years of diverse experience in legislation and policy development, program management, regulatory oversight, relationship building between government, business, Indigenous Communities, not-for-profit sectors, economic development, international trade, research and innovation policy and more.

“George’s vision, as well as his strong understanding of public sector initiatives, make him a natural fit for Canadian Government Executive. We can’t wait to see how he applies his leadership to the content direction of our media products,” said Sandra Service, Marcom and Operations Manager, Canadian Government Executive Media.

Canadian Government Executive Media continues to grow in areas of content leadership and events and most recently with the launch of TechGov after the demise of GTEC. The magazine’s mission, however, remains the same, to contribute to leadership excellence through high-quality content that serves both the seasoned veterans of the public service, as well as the young professionals that are transforming the industry.

He also served in the role of National President of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and is currently the CEO and principal consultant of George Arthur Ross and Associates Inc. George is also an active volunteer who serves on several boards.
