Have you ever asked if you’re in the right job or the right industry at the right time?

There might be a solution – if you live in BC. WorkBC has partnered with a digital advertising agency, FCV, to produce the Labour Market Navigator. This is a tool meant to show citizens what jobs are in demand and expanding in which regions. Displayed in an easy to read infographic rather than as dense, raw data, the heightened accessibility of this information is meant to give citizens an inside look on what job industry to enter into where.

A first of its kind in North America, the Labour Market Navigator is an instance of how the government can use digital solutions to deliver service. WorkBC’s services can now reach a larger number of people and influence them to fill the province’s labour market demands, which will lead to a stronger economy for BC. Citizens benefit because of the accessibility of use and completeness of information, which provides the latest trends from over 500 BC occupations complete with career-specific information such as average salary, workforce demographics, employment rate and geographical demand forecasts. As Johann Starke, FCV’s President & CEO, states: “The Labour Market Navigator takes all the guesswork out of labour market statistics; it no longer feels like you need an economics degree to understand how BC’s labour market trends can be used to map out your career path.”

WorkBC’s Labour Market Navigator aims to meet citizens’ demands for more accessible labour market information. What do you think about this use of digital information? Could other areas of government do something similar?
