Wildlife Biologist, professional hockey player and public servant, born and raised in a small First Nations Community in the Northwest Territories, Joe Dragon has returned home as the NWTs Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources. He joins CGE Editor-in-Chief George Ross to share his leadership perspectives.
Dr. Joe Dragon was appointed in December 2016 as Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources by Premier Bob McLeod. His appointment took effect on March 1, 2017. Born in Fort Smith and a member of the Smith’s Landing First Nation, Dr. Dragon returns to the NWT after holding several senior management positions with federal government. His previous position was Director General, Workforce Development with the Department of National Defence. Dr. Dragon also holds a PhD in Wildlife Ecology and Management from the University of Alberta.
