A $1.5 million dollar investment announcement was recently made by Filomena Tassi, the Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The investment is being made through the Business Scale Up and Productivity stream for TS Manufacturing Company. TS Manufacturing is a Lindsay-based, family-owned manufacturer of equipment for the forest products industry worldwide.

“When we invest in Canadian manufacturers, like TS Manufacturing, we are directly increasing Canada’s potential and economic growth. This first-of-its-kind innovation fills a gap in the lumber industry, strengthens Canada’s competitive advantage, and drives growth in the local economy – and our Government could not be prouder to be investing in this future together,” said Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

The investment will help fill a need in the market by allowing TS Manufacturing to obtain advanced manufacturing equipment to expand production and offer automated solutions such as a Robotic Lumber Sorter to small and medium-sized customers. Such customers have been traditionally under-served by equipment manufacturers.

The project is also expected to strengthen the regional economy in Lindsay and the Kawartha Lakes while boosting local supply chain spending and reducing waste in lumber production. TS Manufacturing is already a major employer in the region with more than 100 staff and this new project will add an additional 10 skilled jobs with the aim of further bolstering the success of the manufacturing industry in the Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough regions.

“We’ve experienced significant growth over the past few years and this funding allows us to scale-up our production capacity to meet demand for our solutions. We are investing in advanced equipment and expanded infrastructure which will create jobs and allow us to produce the highest quality machinery for the sawmill industry. We are pleased to have the Government of Canada’s support for this project; it is a fantastic way to celebrate our 50th anniversary and look ahead to our future,” said Kris Smith, VP of Manufacturing, TS Manufacturing Company.
